Driving changes in your team
🥵Struggling to get your team on board with a change?
The best option would be to coach the team to initiate and formulate the changes themselves rather than you proposing them.
However, in case that’s not an option (for example when the change is imposed from the outside), here's what you can try:
To get individuals on board with your proposal:
• ➕Highlight the benefits they'll gain from the change
• 😱Uncover their concerns and fears and alleviate them
• 💥Identify any conflicts and work towards finding resolutions
To get the the entire team on board:
• 📨Invite everyone to contribute to the proposal (make it optional, and no judgment if they choose not to)
• ✔️Work closely with those who accepted and get them fully on board
• 🗣️Once on board, they become ambassadors who advocate for the change to the team
• 🌟Focus on leaders, as their influence can impact the team greatly
• 📈Gradually, the circle of participants will expand
• 🙋When you reach a "critical mass", even members who initially stayed out will want to join, because they will feel excluded
• 🙅🏽♂️A few special cases may still choose to stay out. These often require additional effort to bring them on board
